Helium’s much-anticipated light miner update will be released May 11th. This firmware update will resolve issues with limited SD card memory, prolonged syncing, and relayed devices.
This update is free to all hosts and will affect all Helium hotspots regardless of age, make, or model – converting all existing hardware into “light miners”. As long as your HotSpot is plugged in and connected to the internet, you don’t need to take any action.
Please keep an eye on your HotSpot earnings tomorrow and in the coming weeks, as bugs and other challenges are not uncommon with large-scale rollouts of new technologies. Do not be alarmed if you see a temporary fluctuation, either positive or negative, in your HNT earnings.
It’s also important to note that devices may need to sync in the interim, as Helium developers are still running the existing “full miner” firmware as a safeguard in case of issues with the transition. Ultimately, we expect this update to have a positive impact, as your HotSpot will no longer spend valuable time syncing with the blockchain or being stuck in ‘relayed’ mode.
